Resistencia Fronteriza is a project born as part of a Presidential Research Fellowship within the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. It aims to give the community a platform to share their auto-historias through pláticas and workshops where attendees engage in discussions about identity, migration, community and resilience.

LUPE Plática + Zine Workshop:
On October 21, 2023, non-profit La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) gave a presentation at their office in San Juan about the work they do, the services they offer and the power of coming together as a community to overcome obstacles. Followed by a zine workshop led by Ramiro Gonzalez (@Outinthe956) where participants discussed and visually shared their story, background and concerns.
Thanks to the LUPE staff, especially Sergio Treviño and Ramiro Gonzalez, for opening the space and leading the plática and zine workshop.

Screenprint + Poetry Workshop:
On November 4, 2023, Unfolded Poetry Project led a poetry workshop followed by a screen printing workshop instructed by local artist Cecilia Sierra. Topics of identity, resilience, childhood memories and grief were discussed during the poetry portion. Victoria Lopez from Unfolded Poetry Project invited moments of self-reflection among participants as they worked on their poems. Participants then designed and screen printed their own posters. Some of which were inspired by the poems written at the workshop.
Thanks to the Unfolded Poetry Project and Cecilia Sierra for instructing this workshop. Additionally, thanks Souther Recio for opening their space, Cactus Valley Art, for this event.
Relief Printmaking Workshop:
On March 23, 2024, participants learned the basics of relief printing while exploring visual themes of identity, the Rio Grande Valley and migration. Instructed by Cecilia Sierra.
Thanks to the Center of Latin American Arts for sponsoring the materials for this workshop and to Cecilia Sierra for instructing it.
